Devils interested in Markov...???

According to multiple sources, newspapers and blogs, the devils are now very interested in Danny Markov. With Colin White out for indefinitly with an eye injury, they definitly could use some help on the blueline....

I don't know about this one. Don't think it would help that much.

Matthew Corrente was returned to his junior club.

WPAD file

Here is how our WPAD look:

function FindProxyForURL(url,host)
{ if(isPlainHostName(host)||
dnsDomainIs(host, ".domain.se"))
return "DIRECT";
else return "PROXY proxy.domain.se:8080; DIRECT";
}

Just publish this textfile on a webserver, http://servername.domain.se/wpad.txt
and configure option 252 in your DHCP to point to this location and everything should work just fine.

browsers must be configured to "automatic detect mode"

Another day at the office

Today was a quiet day at the office.

Nothing major happened.

I configured our external network with a new ISA firewall and proxy.
Now we can publish some of our systems to our customers.

I'm thinking no major configuration, just the required ports should be opened in and out....

tomorrow I'm going to write a WPAD file to publish

Problems at work

During the weekend I worked with upgrading our subversion server to a new version.
The new version is 1.4.5. It seems to work just fine, and our projects haven't reported any problems, so far.

I don't think there should be any problem but you never know, and when there are ca 500 developers, and just about 100 repos, It has to work.

The other thing I planned on doing during the weekend was to implement a new way to authenticate. Subversion has it's own way of authenticate users, but when you have 500 developers it takes alot of time, and they all need to remeber a second password for this.

Thats why I tested this with apache and ldap, and it seemed to work just fine in our testenvironment.
The modules seems to load just fine but, when i'm configuring a repository, the service will not start. There seem to be a problem with libapr.dll.
I can't find som much info on this and when I find it, there are no soloution.....

So right now i have to run some test and see what we will do.

Losing game

We lost the game to Rangers.

Let's just say it's preseason and nothing else.

Changes.....

I changed a few things on the blog today.

Just played around......

Linux with AD authentication

Hey All!

A while ago I was testing how I could setup my Linux computers and servers to authenticate with Active Directory instead of Linux own account management.

I was able to setup so when you log on our Linux servers you use you're AD login and password and everything seemd to work just fine.

I implemented this in our server environment, so now all our users is using their AD username and password on our Linux systems.

The one thing I didn't do so well was that i didn't document this implementation, so now I have forgott how I did everything!

I'm going to look in to this and read current configuration and possibly do it all over again. THIS TIME I'LL WRITE IT DOWN!!!!
We're using Ubuntu, but it should be similar with other Linux distributions

When I'm done I'll post i here.........

It can be done, just have to do a lot of testing.

Job interview.............

I got a call today that I'm going to a second interview, which sounds very nice.....

Upgrading subversion and implementing AD authentication

This weekend I'm going to implement this in our production environment.

The testing has be going very well and it shouldn't take so much time.

It's important to test after the upgrade so everything is working OK!

Preseason game

Subversion on windows with AD authentication

Today i have finished testing Subversion to authenticate with Active Directory.

I've tested this for a few days now and it seems to work just fine!

Well, lets look at it!!!!

First i installed Apache on my server (version 2.0.58)

Then installation of Subversion 1.4.5 on windows

Now we have to configure subversion to run as a service in windows. The following will do that for you:
D:\SVNrepos>sc create svnserve binpath= "\"C:\Program Files\Subversion\bin\svnserve.exe\" --service -r D:\SVNrepos" isplayname= "Subversion Server" depend= Tcpip start= auto

This will create a service named Subversion Server that points to the folder D:\SVNRepos, where my repositorys will be created.

Now we have to enable som modules in apache for this to work:
You have to add these rows to the conf-file for apache, the modules for subversion may allredy be there.

LoadModule dav_svn_module "C:/Program Files/Subversion/bin/mod_dav_svn.so"
LoadModule authz_svn_module "C:/Program Files/Subversion/bin/mod_authz_svn.so"
LoadModule ldap_module modules/util_ldap.so
LoadModule auth_ldap_module modules/mod_auth_ldap.so

Then you add the follwing at the bottom of the apache conf-file.
Be sure to edit the different paths, so it accurate with you're environment

explenation:
SVNPath D:/SVNrepos/test
this is the path to your repository

AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=apache_bind,OU=IT,OU=GTB,OU=SE,DC=sweden,DC=europe,DC=com"
this is the DN to a user that needs to bind with AD. DO NOT use a user with admin rights since the password is in the conf-file in clear text

AuthLDAPBindPassword !password1
The password for user apache_bind

Require group CN=SVN_Test,OU=Groups,OU=SE,DC=sweden,DC=europe,DC=com
This is the group that has access to this repository. Add you're users in this group if they need access.

If you have other repositorys, you just copy everything and change a few things:

Now you can connect to the repository thru a webbrowser http://servername/subversion/test
Authenticate with your AD-login and password

If you use a client to checkout files, use this url and then login

Now I just have to implement this in our live environment.

Hope it helps someone
Good Luck!!!

Ok!! Here we go

Let's se how this will go......

my first post....
